In Why Employees Don’t Do What They’re Supposed To Do and What To Do About It, Ferdinand Fournies provides a comprehensive list of reasons people don’t do what they are supposed to do. I adapted those reasons, and added three more to address why people don’t share their knowledge.

  1. They don’t have time. They think they have no time for knowledge sharing. Solution: Embed knowledge-sharing into the basic work and processes of your organization so that it is not viewed as a separate task which can be avoided.
